Mushroom Rally

March 10, 2025 – Monday

Mario Kart[a] is a series of kart racing games based on the Mario franchise developed and published by Nintendo. Players compete in go-kart races while using various power-up items. It features characters from the Mario series racing along courses either based on locations seen throughout the Mario franchise, or original locations set in the Mario universe!

Well … in 2019 I found an awesome event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, titled: Mushroom Rally. To avoid copyright law infringement, it wasn’t titled: Mario Kart. My sister, (WCP) and I plotted, and planned an adventure on the road to the Great White North.

We were inspired by several Facebook Reels, etc about a troop of friends that dress up as the characters. Here’s one at the Westfield Mall. There’s another one on San Francisco’s Lombard Street

February 24, 2019 – Finally, it was race day! We drove up early to pass through the border with little to no traffic. Speeders Indoor Karting was the venue of choice. Once we checked in, we were able to select our “player costume”. My sister’s all time favorite character is Yoshi. I would oscillate between Bowser, and Donkey Kong. Neither was available so I settled on Luigi.

Charrina and I were kinda separated at the race staging area and kart selection. I assumed her racing abilities that she would catch up to me. What I didn’t know was that a couple of times she was crashed by other players; a boyfriend and girlfriend duo. As I understood WCP, even on-track personnel were unsympathetic. So in retaliation, she took home her Yoshi costume under the guise of being pregnant.

Even though she didn’t start the race that way …

As far as the scoring sheet recorded I was 5th place, and I don’t recall Charrina’s placement. However we were winners regardless because we checked off a Bucket List Item, have memories, and a souvenir(s) for our troubles such as finding geocaches in the snow at the Richmond Nature Park – West.

How are you gonna celebrate Mario Day, Spaceship Earth?
