WELCOME to the Back To School post! That means summer is quickly ending, too. Parents are elated, kids are bummed out, and educators are scrambling. When I was in grade school a reading books incentive was out there via Pizza Hut. Yes, that’s right Pizza Hut! I mean, I never did it, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t available to me.
Successful people tend to be voracious consumers of books, or at least knowledge! That is, to say, when Titans of Industry were interviewed one of their many habits was reading books [not necessarily hobbies, per se]
Well, I like to think of myself as a successful person. Moreover, a published author. For a writer, I’m abysmal at reading books! That’s write, er right.
Words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently are called homographs. The word homograph comes from the Greek words homos (same) and grapho (write). Homographs can have different meanings or derivations, and sometimes they sound different. For example, I have a list of books to read, versus, I have a shorter list of books I’ve read.
Arthur, The Hairstylist
A conversation starter is opening about book reading. Arthur, my hairstylist, asked me if I heard of the book Atomic Habits. I replied no, but tell me more. He continues with a brief summary of it. So I jotted down the name, researched it, and found a free PDF format of Atomic Habits by James Clear.
I’m not “well-read” but I know enough to navigate cerebral social groups. I asked my former Nights Manager, Justin, what was his current book. He mentioned, The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard. I have limited space in my bedroom at Brett’s place. While I am a tactile learner, I understand I should consume these books on a tablet, or electronic device. I love the feel of paper when reading but I can’t tote around every book I wanna read. I powered up the Samsung Galaxy tablet I own, in the hopes to using it for reading purposes only. So far, haven’t even opened it.
Here’s a list of book I wanna read:
- Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek
- Good To Great James C Collins
- Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
- How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
- Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss
- A Bold Return to Giving a Damn: One Farm, Six Generations, and the Future of Food by Will Harris
I’ll title this my Book Backlog, much like my LEGO Backlog. How’s your book backlog looking? Are you reading? Do you like reading? If not, what are your obstacles on reading more? I’d love to read some book suggestions. I’m gonna figure out how to make Reading FUNdamental!
